The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is built around a relatively simple travel-rewards structure: unlimited 2X miles on everyday purchases, elevated rewards on eligible bookings through Capital One Travel, and flexible ways to redeem or transfer miles. The card currently carries a $95 annual fee.
For new applicants, Capital One is currently advertising 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 within the first three months, along with a $300 Capital One Travel Stays credit for eligible hotel and vacation-rental bookings during the first cardholder year.
The card also includes travel-related benefits such as a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® credit, Hertz Five Star status, no foreign transaction fees, and access to Capital One's Lifestyle Collection. Understanding how those benefits work is important before calculating the card's potential value.
The $95 Annual Fee
The Venture card has a $95 annual fee. That fee is considerably lower than the $395 annual fee on Capital One Venture X, which offers a different set of premium travel benefits.
Because Venture does not depend on a large annual travel credit to offset its fee, its economics are relatively straightforward. A cardholder generally needs to earn enough rewards or use enough benefits to justify paying $95 each year.
The card can therefore appeal to consumers who want a travel-oriented rewards system without moving into the higher annual-fee category.
Earning 2X Miles on Everyday Spending
The defining feature of Capital One Venture is its unlimited 2X miles on every purchase.
Unlike cards that divide everyday spending into numerous bonus categories, Venture provides the same base earning rate across ordinary purchases. Capital One also awards 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars, and activities booked through Capital One Travel.
For example, $1,000 in ordinary purchases would generally generate 2,000 miles, while an eligible $1,000 hotel booking through Capital One Travel could generate 5,000 miles.
This structure can make the card relatively easy to use because cardholders do not have to track numerous rotating categories for everyday purchases.
Capital One Travel and 5X Miles
Capital One Travel is central to the Venture rewards structure.
Eligible Venture cardholders earn 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars, and activities booked through Capital One Travel. The platform also provides travel-planning tools such as price prediction and price-drop protection, subject to availability and applicable terms.
Capital One says its price-prediction tools can produce average flight savings of 15%, although actual savings vary and the service is not guaranteed to produce that result for every booking.
Capital One Travel also offers a price-match guarantee on eligible flights, hotels, and rental cars. Restrictions and eligibility requirements apply, so travelers should review the terms attached to a particular booking rather than assuming every reservation qualifies.
Flexible Ways to Redeem Miles
Venture miles can be used in several ways.
Cardholders can use miles toward eligible travel purchases, book travel through Capital One Travel, transfer miles to participating loyalty programs, redeem for cash or statement credits, or exchange them for gift cards. Capital One also allows eligible rewards to be used for purchases through Amazon.com and PayPal®.
Travel redemptions can be particularly relevant because the card is designed around miles rather than traditional cash-back rewards.
Another option is transferring miles to participating airline and hotel loyalty programs. Capital One currently advertises access to more than 15 travel loyalty programs, although transfer ratios and participating partners can change.
Once miles are transferred, the receiving loyalty program's rules govern the expiration and value of those rewards. Capital One states that completed transfers are final.
Miles Do Not Expire While the Account Remains Open
Capital One states that Venture miles do not expire for the life of the account.
This can be useful for cardholders who accumulate rewards gradually rather than taking frequent trips.
It also means there is less pressure to redeem miles simply because a fixed expiration date is approaching. However, the account still needs to remain open and in good standing for rewards to remain available under Capital One's terms.
$300 Capital One Travel Stays Credit
The current Venture welcome offer includes a $300 Capital One Travel Stays credit.
Eligible new cardholders receive the credit for hotel and vacation-rental purchases made through Capital One Travel during the first cardholder year. The credit expires one year after account opening and can be used in one purchase or divided across multiple eligible purchases. Purchases covered by the credit do not earn rewards.
This is a new-account benefit rather than a recurring $300 annual credit.
That distinction matters when comparing the first-year economics of the card with its ongoing value. After the introductory period, cardholders should evaluate the regular $95 annual fee against the rewards and recurring benefits they actually use.
Global Entry and TSA PreCheck Credit
Venture provides up to a $120 statement credit for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee.
The credit applies when the Venture card is used to pay the eligible application fee. Capital One states that one statement credit is available per account every four years, and the account must be open and in good standing when the credit is applied.
This is not a $120 annual benefit. The four-year interval means it should be viewed as an occasional travel-related benefit.
For someone who would otherwise pay one of these application fees, the credit can reduce an out-of-pocket expense during the eligible period.
Lifestyle Collection Benefits
Venture cardholders can also access Capital One's Lifestyle Collection through Capital One Travel.
Eligible hotels and vacation rentals can provide a $50 experience credit, along with benefits such as complimentary Wi-Fi and, when available, room upgrades, early check-in, and late checkout. The booking must be made through Capital One Travel in the eligible cardholder's name, and participating properties and benefits can change.
The $50 credit is not an unrestricted cash rebate. Qualifying expenses depend on the property or vacation rental, and Capital One's terms specify how and where the credit can be used.
For travelers who already book participating properties, these benefits may be more useful than they would be for someone who primarily stays at budget hotels or books accommodations outside Capital One Travel.
Hertz Five Star Status
Eligible Venture cardholders can receive complimentary Hertz Five Star status after enrollment.
Capital One describes the status as providing access to benefits such as upgrades, the ability to skip the rental counter in certain circumstances, and a wider selection of vehicles. Enrollment is required through the applicable Capital One benefits process, and Hertz's rental qualifications and terms also apply.
The practical value depends largely on how often a cardholder rents from Hertz. Someone who rarely rents cars may receive little benefit from the status, while a frequent renter may use it more regularly.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
Venture does not charge foreign transaction fees on purchases made outside the United States.
This can be useful for international travel because purchases abroad do not incur an additional foreign transaction fee from Capital One.
The feature applies to eligible card transactions and does not eliminate other potential costs associated with currency conversion, merchants, or cash withdrawals.
Travel Insurance and Rental-Car Protection
The Venture card also comes with certain travel and rental-car protections.
Capital One lists travel accident insurance and an Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver among Venture's benefits. Eligible rental-car transactions can receive coverage for damage from collision or theft when the applicable requirements are satisfied.
Travel accident insurance can provide coverage for qualifying losses when the card is used to purchase eligible common-carrier transportation.
These protections are subject to specific conditions, exclusions, coverage limits, and documentation requirements. Cardholders should review the applicable Guide to Benefits before relying on the coverage for a particular trip or rental.
Capital One Entertainment
Venture cardholders can also earn 5X miles on eligible Capital One Entertainment purchases.
Capital One Entertainment provides access to tickets and experiences involving music, sports, dining, theater, and other events. Some events may include presales, VIP packages, or other cardholder-specific opportunities.
The 5X rate applies to qualifying purchases made through the Capital One Entertainment ticketing platform, rather than every entertainment purchase made with the card.
Current Welcome Offer
As of September 2026, Capital One is advertising 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening a Venture account.
The current offer also includes the $300 Capital One Travel Stays credit described above. Capital One states that applicants who have received a new-cardmember bonus for Venture or Venture X within the previous 48 months are not eligible for this particular Venture bonus.
Welcome offers can change, so prospective applicants should review the offer displayed at the time of application rather than relying on an older advertisement.
How the Venture Card Fits Different Spending Patterns
The Venture card's structure is relatively straightforward.
Someone with substantial everyday spending can earn 2X miles without having to concentrate purchases in specific categories. A traveler who frequently books hotels, vacation rentals, rental cars, or activities through Capital One Travel can earn the higher 5X rate on those bookings.
The card can also make sense for consumers who value flexible redemption options and the ability to transfer miles to travel loyalty programs.
On the other hand, a person who rarely travels may place less value on travel credits, hotel benefits, rental-car status, and travel protections. In that situation, the $95 annual fee should be compared with the rewards generated from everyday spending and any benefits the cardholder realistically expects to use.
Comparing Venture With a Premium Travel Card
Capital One offers Venture alongside Venture X, but the two cards have substantially different fee structures.
Venture has a $95 annual fee and emphasizes 2X miles on everyday purchases. Venture X has a $395 annual fee and provides additional premium travel benefits, including an annual Capital One Travel credit and access to airport-lounge programs.
That difference makes the comparison less about a single rewards rate and more about how frequently a cardholder travels and which benefits they can actually use.
For consumers who want a simpler travel-rewards card without a premium annual fee, Venture's structure centers on everyday earning, flexible miles, and selected travel benefits. The value of those features ultimately depends on spending patterns, travel frequency, redemption choices, and the ability to use the card's credits and partner benefits under their applicable terms.
